Downloads & Offline
Download music for offline playback, save files to your device, and manage cache & storage.
SimpMusic can cache music for offline playback and, separately, export files to your device.
Download for offline playback
Download a song or playlist and SimpMusic caches it so it can play without a connection. A track moves through Preparing → Downloading → Downloaded. When you're offline, the Home screen surfaces your downloaded music.
Preparing is the stage where SimpMusic works out where to fetch the audio from, before any bytes start moving. A track can sit there briefly without the progress bar advancing — that is normal, not a stalled download.
Keep YouTube playlists offline
Turn on Settings → Content → Keep showing your YouTube playlist when offline to save your YouTube playlists locally so they still appear without a connection.
Save a file to your device
Distinct from caching, Download this song/video file to your device writes the actual audio (or video) file to your device's Download folder. For video, SimpMusic downloads and merges the audio and video streams.
Download quality
Set quality under Settings → Content:
- Download quality — audio quality for downloads: Low 66 / Medium 129 / High 256 kbps (High requires YouTube Music Premium). Default Low 66 kbps.
- Video download quality — 1080p / 720p / 360p (default 720p).
Manage cache & storage (Android)
On Android, Settings → Storage shows a breakdown bar (downloaded, player, canvas, thumbnail, database, free space) and lets you:
- Clear Player Cache, Downloaded Cache, Thumbnail Cache, or Spotify Canvas Cache.
- Set Limit Player Cache — cap the player cache from 100 MB up to 8 GB, or unlimited.
