Accounts & Login

Sign in to YouTube, Spotify and Discord — and how login differs on the Desktop app.

SimpMusic has three independent, optional integrations, all managed from Settings. None is required to play music — the app works fully as a guest.

YouTube / Google account

Signing in with Google gives you a personalized Home and library, authenticated playback, and playlist sync. SimpMusic supports multiple Google accounts that you can switch between.

On Android, login happens in an in-app browser:

Go to Settings → YouTube Account.

Tap Add an account.

Sign in to Google in the in-app browser window.

When it reaches YouTube Music, SimpMusic captures the session and adds your account.

From the YouTube Account dialog you can:

  • Tap an account to make it the active one.
  • Choose Guest to browse without any account.
  • Log out to remove all signed-in accounts.
  • Add an account to sign in with another Google account.

Spotify

Signing in to Spotify unlocks Spotify lyrics and Canvas (the short looping visuals). Both require a Spotify login.

Go to Settings → Spotify.

Tap Log in to Spotify and sign in.

Back in Settings, turn on Enable Spotify Lyrics and/or Enable Canvas.

Tapping Log in to Spotify again while signed in logs you out.

Discord

Connect Discord to show what you're listening to on your profile via Rich Presence.

Go to Settings → Discord integration.

Tap Log in to Discord and authorize.

Turn on Enable rich presence.

See Playback & Queue and the Settings reference for more on what each integration adds.

Logging in on the Desktop app

The desktop app does not have an in-app login browser. Instead, SimpMusic opens an external guide that walks you through signing in and pasting your session cookie/token manually:

Last.fm

Connect Last.fm to scrobble — every track you play gets logged to your Last.fm profile.

Full build only

Last.fm ships only in the Full build. A FOSS build carries no Last.fm credentials, so the group is hidden from Settings entirely rather than shown greyed out.

Go to Settings → Last.fm and tap Log in to Last.fm.

Tap Open Last.fm. Your normal browser opens Last.fm's own authorization page.

Grant SimpMusic access. Last.fm sends you back to the app, which closes the login screen on its own.

Back in Settings → Last.fm, turn on Enable scrobbling — it stays greyed out until you're signed in.

Last.fm is the one integration that never asks SimpMusic for your password. You approve the request on Last.fm's own site and the app only ever receives a session key — which is also why it works identically on desktop and on Android, through your system browser rather than an in-app one.

If the browser doesn't bring you back

Some systems have nothing registered to handle SimpMusic's callback link, so the browser lands on a page and stops there. The login screen has a fallback for exactly that, under Did not come back automatically? — copy the address your browser was redirected to, paste it in, and tap Continue with this link.

What actually gets scrobbled

MomentWhat SimpMusic sends
A track startsA "now playing" update, so your profile shows it live
Partway throughThe scrobble itself — at half the track's length, or 4 minutes in, whichever comes first

Tracks shorter than 30 seconds are never scrobbled, per Last.fm's own rules.

Signing in by hand

Every login screen has an icon in its toolbar that opens a manual entry sheet, for when the in-app browser can't finish the job — it fails to load, the sign-in loops, or you are on desktop where there is no login browser at all.

Each service takes a different value:

ServiceWhat to paste
YouTubeYour YouTube cookie
SpotifyThe sp_dc value from your Spotify cookie
DiscordYour Discord token

Paste the value, tap Set, and SimpMusic verifies it — a good value logs you straight in, a bad one is rejected rather than silently saved.

Spotify has a helper

On the Spotify screen the sheet can list every cookie on the current page and copy one to your clipboard, so you don't have to dig sp_dc out of browser devtools yourself.

These values are the keys to your accounts — treat them like passwords. Don't paste them into anywhere but SimpMusic, and don't share screenshots of the sheet.
