FAQ & Troubleshooting
Common questions about SimpMusic — pricing, versions, regions, lyrics, playback, and getting help.
Is SimpMusic really free?
Yes — it's 100% free and open-source under the GPL-3.0 license. There are no ads, no premium tier, no subscriptions, and no in-app purchases.
Is it on the Google Play Store?
No — Play Store policies conflict with how SimpMusic streams music, so it isn't distributed there. Instead, you can install SimpMusic from IzzyOnDroid, F-Droid, OpenAPK, or directly from GitHub Releases, and it's also available on Desktop. See Installation.
What's the difference between the FOSS and Full versions?
- FOSS — contains no trackers and collects no data.
- Full — uses Sentry to collect crash reports, which helps improve the app.
If you want zero data collection, use the FOSS version.
How do I change my region / country?
Go to Settings → Content → Content Country. The default is VN; change it to match the catalog and charts you want.
The lyrics are wrong — why?
Lyrics are matched to tracks by title and duration, so they aren't always perfectly aligned to a given YouTube video. As a result some songs occasionally get mismatched lyrics. You can switch the lyrics provider under Settings → Lyrics, or rate/vote on lyrics from the player.
Playback keeps erroring — is the app broken?
Not necessarily. SimpMusic depends on YouTube Music, so occasional player errors are normal and usually temporary. Try again, skip the track, or restart playback.
Beta software
SimpMusic is in beta and may crash or misbehave. If you find a reproducible bug, please report it.
How do I log in on the desktop app?
The desktop app doesn't have an in-app login browser — you follow an external guide and paste your session cookie/token. See Accounts & Login for the links.
Why is it called "SimpMusic"?
It's a blend of "Simple" and "Music" — the developer simply likes the name. Despite that, SimpMusic aims to be a powerful, full-featured player.
