Library & playlists

Your playlists, YouTube playlists, automatic collections, sorting and syncing.

The Library tab gathers everything tied to you — playlists you made, playlists from YouTube, and collections SimpMusic builds automatically.

SimpMusic Charts

SimpMusic Charts are the project's own charts — see what's trending among SimpMusic listeners. They live in the Library tab, and you can also browse them on the web at chart.simpmusic.org.

Automatic collections

Some collections need no upkeep — SimpMusic fills them from what you do:

  • Favorites — everything you liked
  • Downloaded — everything cached offline
  • Most played — ranked by play count
  • Followed — artists you follow

Two kinds of "liked"

Liking in SimpMusic and liking on YouTube are separate actions, and it's worth knowing which one you're using:

ActionWhereWhat it touches
Favorite (the heart)Mini player, Now Playing, a song's menuOnly your device — fills the Favorites collection
Add to YouTube LikedA separate toggle on the Now Playing screenYour YouTube account's Liked Music playlist

The YouTube toggle reflects the track's real state on your account, not a local guess — SimpMusic asks YouTube each time a track loads. Tapping it adds or removes the like and confirms with "Added to YouTube Liked" / "Removed from YouTube Liked".

The YouTube toggle needs you to be signed in. Without an account the request has nothing to act on and you just get an error message — the local heart keeps working either way.

Because the two lists are independent, a track can be in one and not the other. Turn on Settings → Content → Combine local and YouTube liked songs to see them merged as a single list instead of tracking both separately.

Creating a playlist

Tap Create in the Library tab and give it a name. The name cannot be empty — that is the only requirement.

Adding songs to a playlist

From a song's "" menu, tap Add to a playlist and pick the target playlist from the list that opens.

Editing a playlist

Open a local playlist's "" menu to rename it or swap its cover:

  • Edit title — rename the playlist. The name can't be empty, same as when creating one.
  • Edit thumbnail — pick a new cover image from your device.

Sorting inside a playlist

Open a playlist and use Sort by. There are four orders:

OrderBehaviour
Older firstOldest additions at the top
Newer firstNewest additions at the top
TitleAlphabetical by track title
Custom orderYour own manual arrangement

The chosen order is remembered across restarts, and it is a single app-wide preference — it is not stored separately per playlist.

Syncing with YouTube

A local playlist can be synced to your YouTube account, and unsynced again later. SimpMusic asks for confirmation both ways, since syncing changes what lives on your YouTube account and unsyncing breaks that link.

Suggestions

Inside a playlist, Suggest proposes tracks that fit what is already there, so you can grow a playlist without searching for each song yourself.

Downloading a playlist

Playlists can be downloaded as a whole. Tracks move through Downloading → Downloaded, and once complete the playlist appears under Downloaded playlists.
