Listen Together
Shared listening rooms that keep everyone on the same track at the same position — compatible with Metrolist.
Listen Together puts you and your friends in a shared room where every member plays the same track at the same position. It works on Android and desktop — and rooms are shared with Metrolist: a SimpMusic client and a Metrolist client can sit in the same room together.
Opening it
The Home and Library tabs both carry a people icon in their top bar — tap it to open the Listen Together screen. While a room is live, the icon carries a dot, so you can see the room is still running after you've navigated somewhere else in the app.
Hosting and joining
Set a display name — the name everyone in the room sees.
Create room to host one, or enter a friend's code and Join room.
As host, share your room code with the people you want in.
Joining drops you into the song mid-flight: you start at the room's current position, not at the beginning. Unless the host has auto-approve on, they have to let you in first — you wait on "Waiting for the host" until they do, while a wrong code gets an error instead.

Who controls what
The host owns the room's playback — track changes, play, pause and seeking follow the host. From the member list, the host can also:
| Action | Effect |
|---|---|
| Make host | Hands the room over — that member controls playback from then on |
| Remove from room | Kicks them out; they can rejoin with the code |
| Block permanently | They cannot rejoin, even with the code |
Guests aren't chained to the room's transport entirely: a guest can pause locally and stay paused while the room plays on without them. Pressing play again rejoins the room where it is now, not where you stopped.

Listen Together settings
The Listen Together screen has its own settings (server, auto-approve, blocklist):
- Server — rooms live on a community server by default; you can point SimpMusic at your own
compatible server by entering its
wss://address. - When you host — Auto-approve joins lets anyone with the code straight in without asking, and Auto-approve suggestions sends suggested tracks straight into the queue instead of waiting for your approval.
- When you are a guest — Follow the host's volume, on by default each time you join a room.
- Blocked — review the people you've blocked, and unblock them.
Good to know
- Crossfade is suspended while you're in a room — a fade overlaps two tracks for several seconds, which would drift the room apart. Your crossfade setting itself is untouched and applies again once you leave.
- Reconnecting is capped: if the connection keeps failing, SimpMusic stops after five attempts and reports the problem rather than retrying forever.
- Leaving the app or switching away for too long disconnects you from the room.
